Oscar Brings Home the Biggest Stick Yet

Oscar had already proved that ordinary sticks were not enough. On today’s walk, he decided to raise the standard.

The walk was going perfectly normally

Oscar the Golden Retriever was enjoying a quiet walk when he suddenly froze beside a patch of trees.

His owner knew that look.

“Oscar… what have you found?”

Oscar disappeared behind a bush for three seconds and returned carrying what could only generously be described as a stick.

It was closer to a small tree branch.

Oscar had made his decision

The branch stretched far beyond both sides of his body, but Oscar marched forward proudly as if he were carrying a perfectly normal toy.

One end brushed a hedge. The other tapped a fence.

Oscar adjusted his grip and kept walking.

“We are not taking that home,” his owner said.

Oscar’s tail wagged harder.

Apparently, negotiations were over.

Then they reached the gate

Oscar approached the garden entrance without slowing down.

THUNK.

The branch caught both sides of the gate.

Oscar backed up and tried again.

THUNK.

He tilted his head, stared at the gate for a moment and then attempted a diagonal approach.

The gate remained unconvinced.

His owner laughed. “Oscar, you’ve done this before.”

A very important engineering solution

After several determined attempts, Oscar finally turned sideways while his owner guided one end of the branch through first.

Success.

Oscar trotted into the garden carrying his prize, dropped it in the middle of the lawn and looked extremely pleased with himself.

Five minutes later, he was lying beside it like a dragon guarding treasure.

The branch stayed.

Of course it did.

Why this story feels familiar

Retrievers carrying objects is an instantly recognisable visual, and Oscar’s oversized branch turns that instinctive-looking image into a simple slapstick problem: the prize is much wider than the gate. It also continues Oscar’s established PawViral “giant stick” running joke.

A real-world safety note

Real sticks can splinter, injure mouths or create choking hazards. For fetch and carrying games, purpose-made dog toys are generally a safer choice than branches, particularly for vigorous chewers or dogs that run while holding them.
